Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, the Jan Dhan Yojana has opened over 59 crore accounts, with total deposits of INR 3,170,000 crores. Approximately 78 per cent of these accounts have been established in rural or semi-urban areas and are primarily owned by women.
In a social media post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significant role played by the Jan Dhan Yojana in advancing financial inclusion and empowering individuals throughout India. The scheme, launched by PM Modi on this day in 2014, marks its 12th year of operation. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, more than 59 crore accounts have been opened so far, with total deposits amounting to 3 lakh 17 thousand crore rupees. With these numbers, the Jan Dhan Yojana continues to be recognized as the world’s largest financial inclusion initiative, redefining access to banking for all Indians.
According to the data, approximately 78 per cent of these accounts have been opened in rural or semi-urban areas, with women accounting for approximately 56 per cent of account ownership.
