The Supreme Court has sought the Centre's response on regulating or potentially banning the retail sale of acid, following concerns over its easy availability. The court also ordered rehabilitation measures for acid attack victims.

The Supreme Court, expressing concerns over the continued ease in the retail sale of acid, despite guidelines issued in 2013, has sought the Centre's response on whether to impose a complete ban or stricter regulations. This decision comes in light of ongoing issues with the availability of acid.

In addition, the court has directed all states and Union Territories to formulate appropriate rehabilitation measures for victims of acid attacks within six weeks. The Union government is expected to consider framing a model rehabilitation scheme and provide necessary assistance to states for effective implementation. The proposed rehabilitation measures will encompass compensation, medical assistance, and free education up to higher levels for acid attack victims.
