The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission to disclose details of appeals resolved by tribunals regarding voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal, following a plea by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
In response to a petition filed by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury seeking expedited disposal of SIR-related appeals, the Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission (EC) to submit details of all such appeals decided so far by tribunals appointed specifically for handling disputes related to voter deletions during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal. This action follows a plea by Chowdhury, who raised concerns over the delay in disposing of these appeals.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant took note of the petition and scheduled the matter for further hearing on August 25.
