Several protesters were detained in Delhi as thousands gathered at Jantar Mantar to demand quotas based on economic criteria instead of caste. The event was held under the banner of Reservation Hatao Andolan.

On Friday, hundreds of protesters were detained by the police and Rapid Action Force in Delhi. Thousands had gathered at Jantar Mantar to protest against caste-based quotas in educational institutions and government jobs, demanding they be based on economic criteria instead. The protesters assembled under the banner of an organization named Reservation Hatao Andolan.

Most of the demonstrators were men, holding posters and saffron flags, and shouting slogans emphasizing their demands. One protester from the Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha told PTI, "Our demand is that economic condition should be considered while deciding who needs government support. A poor person, irrespective of caste, should be provided assistance for education, coaching and other needs.".

Some protesters also demanded income-based prioritization within the quota for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. However, earlier this month, the Union government had opposed income-based prioritisation within the quota in a submission to the Supreme Court.
