Female journalists allege sexual harassment by Delhi Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Bhagat while covering a protest at Jantar Mantar. The allegations have been acknowledged and transferred to the Crime Branch for investigation.
Three women journalists have accused Delhi Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vivek Bhagat, of sexual harassment while they were covering protests at Jantar Mantar on Saturday. In a video shared by Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, one journalist claimed that Bhagat groped her while she was documenting the detention of student leader Neha Bora during a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Following this incident, several journalists and protesters gathered outside the Parliament Street police station to demand an FIR against Bhagat. The Delhi Police acknowledged three complaints of sexual harassment 'in context of the emergent law and order situation' on Sunday and transferred them to the Crime Branch at Kamla Market for a fair and impartial enquiry. It remains unclear whether the allegations against Bhagat are part of these complaints or separate cases.
Cockroach Janta Party leader Saurav Das announced that a protest would be held at the police station on Sunday seeking action against the assistant commissioner of police. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also expressed concern over the delay in registering an FIR in the case, stating that women across Delhi are gripped by fear for their safety during protests.
It is important to note that such incidents highlight concerns about the treatment of women in protest situations, particularly by those responsible for maintaining law and order.
