This report provides additional details about the fire incident that occurred in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of a government hospital in Maharashtra’s Amravati district, resulting in the death of three newborns.

According to The Indian Express, nine infants were present in the room at the time of the fire. Hospital staff managed to evacuate all nine babies, but tragically, three of them succumbed to their injuries. The remaining six newborns have been admitted to a super speciality hospital. Amravati Deputy Commissioner of Police Shyam Ghuge stated that the fire was confined to one room in the NICU and was extinguished within about 30 minutes. He added that the fire originated due to a technical fault in the thermal unit.

The authorities will investigate the causes of the blaze, including whether the hospital adhered to fire safety norms. According to The Indian Express, Ghuge revealed that the examination of the technical equipment involved in the incident and the fire-safety arrangements at the hospital are likely to be part of the probe.

This incident underscores the importance of maintaining stringent safety measures in healthcare facilities, particularly in critical care units such as NICUs.
