The Union Cabinet has approved three significant schemes to promote domestic manufacturing, strengthen India's position in global sports goods markets, and empower local self-governance institutions.
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has taken a decisive step towards boosting domestic manufacturing by approving the Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme. With an outlay of ten thousand crore rupees over 13 years, the scheme aims to create a globally competitive container manufacturing ecosystem in India and reduce import dependence. The scheme comprises four components: Interest Subvention Assistance, Testing and Certification assistance, Land Leasing support, and Operational Expenditure Assistance.
In another development, the Union Cabinet has approved the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme with an outlay of over one thousand 856 crore rupees. The scheme is intended to position India as a global hub for high-quality sports goods by supporting the development of a globally competitive sports goods industry and strengthening India’s position in global supply chains.
The third scheme approved by the Union Cabinet is the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Gram Swaraj Yojana (PMVGSY), which aims to transform Panchayats into empowered, self-reliant, accountable, and high-performing institutions of local self-government. The scheme has a total financial outlay of 7,395 crore rupees and will cover more than 2.78 lakh Rural Local Bodies and Traditional Bodies across the country.
