Union Home Minister Amit Shah has claimed that three crore of the voters removed from the electoral rolls during a special revision were Bangladeshi infiltrators. This claim has been made amid ongoing concerns about the voter roll revision process.

At a rally in Hyderabad on Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that three crore of the 13 crore voters removed from the electoral rolls during the special intensive revision were 'Bangladeshi infiltrators'. This claim comes amid ongoing concerns about the voter roll revision process and its potential impact on genuine voters. According to Shah, more than 6.2 crore voters had been shifted, nearly three crore had died and over one crore were duplicate entries.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader also alleged that the Congress party aims to capture elections through bogus voting, stating that the exclusion of the three crore 'infiltrators' is causing 'stomach ache' for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The voter roll revision process began in 2025 and has been conducted across multiple phases. The first phase took place in Bihar, while the second and third phases were extended to 12 states and Union Territories in late 2025 and the first half of 2026, respectively, with the third phase currently underway in 19 states and Union Territories.

Since the exercise began, concerns have been raised that it could eliminate genuine voters from the rolls and even shape electoral outcomes. In May, the Supreme Court upheld the legality of the revision but stated that the exercise does not mean that the Election Commission can decide on whether the person is an Indian citizen.
