Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah graced the Diamond Jubilee celebrations marking the establishment of Chandigarh Police on November 1, 2026, by attending the President’s Colour Award Ceremony as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by several dignitaries, including the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria. During his address to the gathering, Shah recognized the force’s six decades of service, dedication, and sensitivity. He mentioned that making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty is a matter of pride for any martyr and also a matter of pride for the organization to which the personnel belong.
Shah announced that 141 new vehicles are being inducted into the Chandigarh Police fleet, which will significantly strengthen rapid response, intensive patrolling, mobility, technology, and modern policing. He stated that with the addition of these vehicles, Chandigarh Police is expected to rank first nationwide in terms of response time.
The Union Home Minister also commended Chandigarh Police for its efforts towards safeguarding the city over the past 60 years, and for serving as a vital force in the heart of the northern region. He emphasized that during an era of terrorism, Chandigarh Police demonstrated exceptional valour and courage, working to protect not only Chandigarh but the entire region from terrorism.
Shah highlighted some key achievements of Chandigarh Police, including setting benchmarks across the country through exemplary discharge of duties by its Crime Wing, Operations Cell, Security Wing, Traffic Police, and PCR units. He also mentioned that Chandigarh has transformed a justice system once notorious for ‘Tareekh Pe Tareekh’, achieving an 85% conviction rate and an average case disposal time of just 140 days.
