On September 27, 2026, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah inaugurated several development projects worth ₹1,472 crore at Sabarmati Railway Station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The initiatives include a WAG-12 Maintenance Shed, the introduction of the 'Kavach' train protection system, and the launch of India's first LNG-powered train.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated development projects worth ₹1,472 crore at Sabarmati Railway Station in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on September 27, 2026. The initiatives aim to enhance environmental sustainability, passenger amenities, and safety for rail passengers.

In addition to the WAG-12 Maintenance Shed, costing ₹700 crore for the maintenance of railway locomotive engines, and the implementation of the 'Kavach' train protection system on the Sabarmati–Kalol–Sabarmati rail section at a cost of ₹48 crore, other projects include the doubling of the Sabarmati–Sarkhej railway line and the introduction of LNG-powered trains for environmental conservation.

The 'Kavach' train protection system has also been proposed for implementation on the Ahmedabad–Palanpur and Ahmedabad–Samakhiali rail sections. Shri Amit Shah highlighted that an engine with a twin-section capacity of 12,000 horsepower has been commissioned, which can haul nearly as much freight as 600 trucks single-handedly.

Addressing the program, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah emphasized the significant development Sabarmati Railway Station has undergone since the 1980s, particularly regarding passenger amenities, safety, and connectivity.
