Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, accuses the Congress of misleading people over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He also discusses issues related to EVMs, Naxalism, drug abuse, and Diwali special trains.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has accused the Congress party of misleading the public over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. During a public meeting in Jaipur as part of the BJP’s 'Save Democracy – Remove Anarchy' campaign, Mr Vaishnaw highlighted that SIR was not being conducted for the first time and is aimed at cleaning up electoral rolls. He questioned the Congress over its allegations of irregularities in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Mr Vaishnaw pointed out that voters have given different political parties an opportunity to serve since the introduction of EVMs, with the BJP winning on some occasions and the Congress on others. However, the BJP has never questioned the institutions. He mentioned that the Congress had not raised such questions when it won elections in Kerala.
The Union Minister also asked the Congress to raise issues in Parliament rather than on social media. He emphasized that the government is ready to discuss every issue in Parliament and that merely displaying a copy of the Constitution was not enough; its spirit must also be understood.
In addition, Mr Vaishnaw spoke about the current state of affairs in India, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the country to new heights. He asserted that India is now capable of striking enemy territory and that Naxalism, which had grown during the Congress rule, has been eliminated under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He added that a similar campaign would be pursued against drug abuse.
Earlier in the day, Mr Vaishnaw met Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma at his residence to discuss the expansion and modernization of the railway network in the state, as well as ways to improve passenger amenities.
