Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the importance of geospatial capabilities in India's future economic growth and encouraged public-private partnerships at a workshop organized by the Survey of India.

On October 30, 2026, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, delivered a keynote address at a workshop titled ‘Government & Industry Synergy for Geospatial Transformation: Co-Creating the Geospatial Economy for Viksit Bharat 2047’ in New Delhi. The event was organized by the Survey of India under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India.

The Minister participated in a roundtable discussion with senior government officials and industry leaders on opportunities, challenges, and perspectives for advancing the geospatial sector. He inaugurated an exhibition and interacted with exhibitors.

Dr. Singh highlighted the transformation of the Survey of India from a traditional surveying organization to one adapting satellite-based mapping, drones, and computer-based technologies. He urged stronger public-private partnerships to expand markets, develop viable business models, and encourage startups and MSMEs.

The Minister also emphasized the need for Government departments to work with the Survey of India to identify areas where collaboration could generate economic growth. He called for virtual meetings to familiarize them with the organization’s capabilities, aiming to increase awareness and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Prof. Umesh V. Waghmare, Secretary of the Department of Science & Technology, spoke about geospatial infrastructure helping organize national resources and supporting their optimal use, including during the energy transition. He highlighted the convergence of satellite and drone technologies, artificial intelligence, optics, and rapid data processing.

Shri S. K. Sinha, Surveyor General of India, thanked Dr. Jitendra Singh for his guidance and support in advancing geospatial reforms. He expressed confidence that the workshop would help turn the shared vision into collaborative action.
