The Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts for several Uttarakhand districts, prompting the Chief Minister to urge caution and potential disruption of the Char Dham Yatra.
The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at several places across Uttarakhand today and tomorrow. Accordingly, red alerts have been issued for Bageshwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar, where extremely heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations.
Orange alerts have been issued for Dehradun, Pauri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Almora, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected. Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in other parts of the state.
For tomorrow, a red alert has been issued for Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar and Pauri for heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall at some places. Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Nainital, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag.
The Met Department has also forecast snowfall at places located at an altitude of 4,000 metres and above in the state.
In response, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has appealed to residents and tourists to follow weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during the red alert. He has directed all district magistrates and concerned departments to remain vigilant and ensure that relief and rescue arrangements are in place.
The Char Dham Yatra in the Garhwal region will continue for now. However, in case of heavy rainfall, pilgrims will be stopped at the nearest holding area for their safety.
