On October 12, 2026, Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed participants of the 66th Course of the National Defence College in New Delhi. He emphasized that national strategy must translate national purpose into action and national intent into tangible outcomes.
Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan stated that India’s ambition to emerge as a leading global power is not to dominate others, but to ensure that no country dictates terms to it. He underscored that every sovereign nation, big or small, deserves equal respect and that no country should encroach upon another’s territorial boundaries.
He outlined five broad priorities: safeguarding India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity; preserving its democratic, secular and federal character; advancing its strategic, political, economic and military objectives; ensuring a stable and secure environment for growth and human development; and contributing to international peace and stability.
The Vice-President also highlighted the importance of strategic thinking, integrated policymaking, and international cooperation in addressing contemporary security challenges. He cited India’s civilisational philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) and referred to India’s Vaccine Maitri initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic, its role as a first responder during disasters, and its leadership in international initiatives on climate action and disaster resilience as examples of these values in practice.
Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan emphasized that corruption remains a major challenge for the Global South and called for collective efforts to eradicate it. He urged stronger engagement with the Global South, focusing on mutual respect, sovereign equality, and shared development priorities.
In conclusion, the Vice-President urged future strategic leaders to adopt an integrated and forward-looking approach that transcends institutional and professional boundaries.
