Shri Chevuri Anjaneyulu, a waste picker from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, has gained economic stability and improved living conditions for his family due to assistance received under the SUY component of the NAMASTE scheme.
Shri Chevuri Anjaneyulu, a resident of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, has experienced improved economic stability thanks to support received under the Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) component of the NAMASTE scheme. Mr. Anjaneyulu, who had worked for seven years supporting his wife and two children, is a 25-year-old member of the Scheduled Tribe community who began waste-picking work at a young age due to financial hardship.
Before the assistance, income from waste picking made it difficult for him to meet household expenses and plan for his children’s future. He aspired to improve the family’s living conditions and provide his children with a good education.
On June 19, 2023, he and three other members received support for a group project under SUY through the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation, totaling Rs 35 lakh, including a loan of Rs 17.5 lakh and an upfront capital subsidy of Rs 17.5 lakh. This assistance has allowed Mr. Anjaneyulu to strengthen his livelihood and earn approximately Rs 10,000 more per month through the scheme, making it easier for the family to meet their expenses comfortably.
His two children now attend an English-medium private school, and the additional income has enabled him to support their education and work towards better opportunities for them. The assistance provided under SUY has helped Mr. Anjaneyulu achieve greater economic security and a more secure future for his family.
For Shri Anjaneyulu, this support has meant greater economic stability and a more secure future for his family. His experience shows how access to livelihood assistance can help waste pickers improve their income and pursue their aspirations.
