A detailed breakdown of the 1057 personnel awarded Gallantry and Service Medals on India's Independence Day 2026, across Police, Fire, Home Guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD), and Correctional Services.
On Independence Day 2026, a total of 1057 personnel from various services received Gallantry and Service Medals. The breakdown of these awards includes the following:
– Medal for Gallantry (GM) was awarded to 301 individuals. Of these, 272 were Police personnel and 29 were Fire Service personnel.
– Among the recipients of GM awards, 197 personnel served in Left Wing Extremism affected areas, 51 were from Jammu & Kashmir region, 12 were from North-East, and 41 were from other regions.
– President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) was bestowed upon 92 individuals. This included 83 Police Service personnel, 4 Fire Service personnel, 3 Civil Defence & Home Guard Service personnel, and 2 Correctional Service personnel.
– A total of 664 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM) were given out. The distribution was as follows: 606 to Police Service, 28 to Fire Service, 18 to Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and 12 to Correctional Service.
