Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is accused of slapping an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker identified as Saheb during a dispute about the poor quality of a road in Tilak Nagar area. The incident was captured on video and shared by the AAP.
The altercation took place at the site of a road under construction in the Tilak Nagar area, where Saheb, who handles social media for Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh, had gone to inspect the road after being called by the Public Works Department. During the inspection, Saheb pointed out sections where the road surface was breaking apart.
In a video shared by the AAP, Verma can be seen grabbing Saheb's mobile phone before appearing to slap him. The video also shows police personnel trying to break up the altercation. Jarnail Singh claimed that instead of addressing concerns about the road, Verma slapped his colleague.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal shared a video of the incident and said Saheb was slapped for 'exposing corruption in road construction'. The AAP has called for Verma’s arrest.
In response to the allegations, Verma claimed that the AAP worker had allegedly abused his family. He also alleged that Jarnail Singh arrived at the site with 'history-sheeter goons', used abusive and indecent language, and pressured public works engineers to introduce him to the contractor and arrange a commission for him.
Verma further accused the MLA of visiting the site at night after the roadwork was completed to damage the newly laid road and record videos alleging corruption because he had not received a commission.
