India, under its prestigious 2026 BRICS Chairship, is hosting a virtual meeting of the Heads of Prosecution Services from member countries. This important dialogue, presided over by the Ld. Attorney General for India, Shri R. Venkataramani, falls under the umbrella of India's vision 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability'.
The meeting, taking place from July 20-21, 2026, focuses on the theme ‘Exchanging Experiences and Best Practices in Criminal Adjudication from the Prosecution’s Perspective’. The discussions will delve into modern institutional challenges and share practices of adjudication, particularly in the context of Artificial Intelligence and justice.
Digital technology is at the forefront of these discussions, with a focus on the digitisation of criminal procedures, management of electronic evidence, and implementation of time-bound trials. This meeting aims to build upon the digital thread initiated in previous forums, pushing the concepts into practical day-to-day procedures.
A central goal is to make the criminal justice system more sensitive, transparent, and victim-centric. Member countries will share unique experiences to improve prosecutorial effectiveness and foster public trust in prosecution services. The meeting also addresses complex modern challenges such as transnational financial crimes, cyber threats, and environmental violations by enhancing mechanisms for mutual legal assistance and cross-border evidence sharing while promoting professional capacity building for Prosecutors.
