Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav addresses farmers during Balram Krishi Mahotsav, announcing initiatives for GI Tag for Barwani red chilli, irrigation capacity expansion, access to fertilisers, seeds, and markets.

During the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Barwani district, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav addressed farmers via video conferencing from the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He emphasized that Barwani, derived from ‘Bar ke Van’ (forests of banyan trees), is a symbol of strength and sustainability, reflecting its potential for agriculture and innovation.

Chief Minister Yadav lauded the district's farmers for producing outstanding cotton, premium-quality bananas, and renowned red chillies. To bolster the agricultural sector in Barwani, he announced several initiatives.

Firstly, the State Government is making efforts to secure a Geographical Indication (GI) Tag for Barwani's red chilli, which would enhance its identity and market value worldwide. In terms of irrigation, major projects such as Sendhwa, Niwali, Pati and Nagalwadi Lift Irrigation Schemes, and the Shaheed Bhima Nayak Sagar (Lower Goi) Project are being implemented, aimed at irrigating over 1.21 lakh hectares of agricultural land in the district.

The Chief Minister highlighted the need for quality fertilisers, improved seeds, and electricity supply for farmers. He announced that farmers will receive approval for a single crop loan covering the entire year, with a repayment period of 12 months. Moreover, if agricultural land is acquired for development projects, farmers will now receive compensation equal to four times the prevailing market value.

In addition, Barwani's banana growers have successfully adopted drip irrigation and advanced tissue culture technology, making their produce highly sought after in international markets. The Mega Food Processing Cluster being developed at Ghatwa in Rajpur tehsil will significantly benefit banana growers.

Farmers are currently receiving 10 hours of uninterrupted electricity daily, with the goal of ensuring 24-hour power supply. To protect farmers from market fluctuations, the State Government has transferred funds into the accounts of farmers for various crops.

Chief Minister Yadav also mentioned that the Central and State Governments are promoting solar energy generation on farms to transform Madhya Pradesh's food producers into energy producers.
