Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya addressing the Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Glasgow, Scotland

Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya delivers keynote address at the Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Glasgow, outlining India's long-term commitment to Commonwealth sport, governance reforms, anti-doping measures, and flagship initiatives.

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the need for a stronger, member-driven framework for Commonwealth sports cooperation while addressing the Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Glasgow, Scotland on July 23, 2026. In his keynote address, he outlined India's long-term commitment to Commonwealth sport by expressing readiness to host the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a Developed India by 2047, sports is identified as a vital pillar. The Minister noted that hosting the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games and the 13th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Amdavad would contribute to delivering an exceptional Games, leaving behind a lasting institutional legacy for Commonwealth sport.

Dr. Mandaviya also discussed governance reforms, a strengthened anti-doping framework, and flagship initiatives such as Khelo India, Fit India, and the ASMITA League, which are nurturing grassroots talent, empowering greater participation of women in sports, and fostering a vibrant sporting culture across the nation.

The Minister expressed strong support for establishing a Commonwealth Sport Coordination Forum as an annual platform to translate ministerial decisions into action. He also proposed a network of member-led Commonwealth Centres of Excellence to promote knowledge sharing and capacity building. India offered to host meetings, technical workshops, and regional consultations in the lead-up to 2030.

The Minister's proposal for a member-led approach reflects India's own reforms in sports governance, as seen with the National Sports Governance Act enforced last year to strengthen accountability, professional governance, and athlete welfare across national sports bodies.
