Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh speaking at a media conclave

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, emphasized India's readiness for the upcoming industrial revolution driven by biotechnology and artificial intelligence, citing the nation's progress in various frontier areas such as space.

On August 9, 2026, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, among other portfolios, addressed a media conclave. During his speech, he underscored India's strategic position in the forthcoming industrial revolution that is expected to be driven by biotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI).

India, according to Singh, is now among the first few countries globally to have a dedicated Biotechnology policy named BiOE3. This policy aims at strengthening the biotechnology ecosystem and will influence medical science, agriculture, food production, and create new opportunities for economic growth and employment.

In addition to the BiOE3 policy, India also has a National Quantum Mission and India AI Mission in place. The country's space economy, which was earlier almost negligible, has grown significantly due to the opening of the space sector to private participation in 2020. As a result, it has grown to approximately USD 9 billion and is projected to reach USD 40–45 billion within the next eight to nine years.

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that India’s emergence as a global manufacturing and technology hub is due to the rapid pace of technological change, innovation, private-sector participation, and opportunities arising in frontier sectors. He also congratulated the winners of the Digital Appliance Awards at the conclave.

The Minister's address also touched upon India’s progress in space, citing the Chandrayaan mission’s detection of evidence of water molecules on the Moon as an example of the country contributing to global scientific knowledge. He emphasized that what was required was an enabling policy environment that could translate India's capabilities into outcomes.

Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed optimism about India's role in the upcoming industrial revolution, stating that the country is already part of this transition and will continue to make significant strides in various frontier areas.
