The Bihar Police has filed multiple cases related to the dissemination of AI-generated videos and real footage from a molestation incident in Jamui district.
On Saturday, the Bihar Police filed a case against an unidentified individual for sharing purportedly artificial intelligence (AI) generated videos that depicted a girl who was molested by a group of men in Jamui district last week. According to PTI, the videos were considered misleading and fake, as they could potentially reveal the victim's identity and negatively impact social harmony.
The case was registered under various sections, including provisions from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the Juvenile Justice Act, and the Information Technology Act. The police statement specified that sharing such videos could endanger the victim's privacy and safety.
On Monday, a case was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against those involved in the actual molestation incident. A special investigation team was formed to investigate the incident.
Six persons have been arrested in connection to the molestation case so far. On Tuesday, an additional case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against those involved in sharing videos of the two minors, including both real and AI-generated content.
The molestation incident occurred on September 19 when a minor girl was sexually harassed while riding a two-wheeler with her male friend. One video shows the boy riding a two-wheeler with the girl seated behind him. A group of men can be seen surrounding them on a dimly lit road and asking whether they were classmates and whether their families knew about their relationship.
