The acting chief justice of the Rajasthan High Court, Sanjeev Prakash Sharma, has denied allegations made against him by a Supreme Court judge regarding misuse of administrative powers. Sharma also asserted that he has explained his position to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and provided evidence.
On Friday, Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma contested the claims made by Supreme Court Judge Sandeep Mehta regarding alleged misuse of administrative powers. According to Live Law, Justice Sharma asserted that these allegations were baseless and stemmed from resentment.
Justice Sharma expressed confidence in the Indian judicial system and urged all concerned parties to wait for the decision of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant before reaching a conclusion. Bar and Bench reported that Sharma stated he has explained his position to Kant and refuted the allegations against him with evidence.
In his letters, Mehta wrote that Sharma had held the position of acting chief justice for ‘more than 10 months’. The Supreme Court judge has also claimed that several judges of the Rajasthan High Court had approached him during his visits to the state and expressed concerns about Sharma’s conduct. Mehta alleged that Sharma had ‘frequently’ threatened fellow judges with ‘retributive action’, including transfers, while ‘claiming his closeness’ with the chief justice of India.
Justice Sanjay K Agrawal was recommended by the Supreme Court collegium as the chief justice of the Rajasthan High Court on August 31. Sharma is due to retire on September 26.
