The opposition parties accuse the Maharashtra government of creating a lawless environment following an attack on actor Tiger Shroff. The incident took place just days after a Uddhav Sena functionary was shot dead outside his party office in Thane.
On Sunday evening, unidentified gunmen opened fire on actor Tiger Shroff’s vehicle in Mumbai, injuring two persons. Two adults were arrested and a minor detained in Kota, Rajasthan on Monday after a first information report has been filed.
In a purported audio clip shared online, an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack. The gang has previously threatened actor Salman Khan, who is associated with Shroff's project. Bishnoi, who is in jail in Gujarat, has repeatedly threatened to kill Khan.
The incident took place just days after a Uddhav Sena functionary was shot dead outside his party office in Thane. The Rashtriya Janata Dal alleged that nobody is safe under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg declined to comment on the social media post by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claiming responsibility for the attack. Shroff was seen with bandages in videos of him online meeting Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde after the incident, but the police said that the actor was not hit by any bullets.
Reacting to the incident, Congress’ state chief Harshwardhan Sapkal said that criminals in Maharashtra ‘no longer fear the law’ and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ control over the police administration ‘has ceased to exist’. He asked Fadnavis to take moral responsibility of the incident and resign.
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut called the Chief Minister a ‘failed’ home minister while Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule described the state’s law and order as ‘extremely alarming’. NCP(SP)’s Rohit Pawar said that the incident was ‘utterly alarming’ and urged the state government to hand over the home portfolio to a ‘competent minister’.
