The Bombay High Court has postponed the Leave India Notice issued to actor Imran Khan, who holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. The hearing has been adjourned till Monday.
On Tuesday, the Bombay High Court put on hold the Leave India Notice that was issued to actor Imran Khan by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office on October 15. The notice required Khan, a United States citizen and an OCI cardholder, to leave India by October 28. The hearing in this matter has been adjourned till Monday following a statement from the Union government that no coercive action will be taken against Khan until then.
The Leave India Notice is a directive issued by authorities requiring a foreign citizen to exit the country within a specified time period. Failure to comply with the order could lead to detention, deportation, or blacklisting. However, it's worth noting that OCI cardholders are generally allowed to live and work in India indefinitely.
Khan had moved the High Court against the notice, arguing that rules do not prohibit OCI cardholders from participating in a protest. He was detained during a protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai on October 10, where he spoke as a resident of Mumbai and not as an affiliate of any organization.
