Shahdol, known as 'Mini Brazil', hosts a major basketball championship and has established itself as a football nursery. The Chief Minister praises the district's sports achievements, emphasizing the existence of talent in rural regions.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh as an emerging star in the world of sports, given its recent hosting of a major basketball championship and its status as a football nursery in Vicharpur village. The district's youth are not only involved in football but also in cricket, athletics, kabaddi, volleyball, and basketball.
Dr. Yadav emphasized that players from tribal areas like Vicharpur have reached the national level, demonstrating the existence of talent in villages and smaller regions. Shahdol has recorded strong participation in state-level competitions such as Khelo MP and Youth Games.
During the inaugural ceremony of the 70th School State-Level Basketball Championship, held via video conference from Samatva Bhawan at his residence in Bhopal, Dr. Yadav praised Shahdol's long association with basketball. He noted exceptional performances of regional players in national competitions and their contributions to bringing laurels to the state.
Despite limited resources, three basketball courts have been developed in Shahdol due to the district's passion for basketball. The Shahdol basketball team has performed exceptionally well at the state level over the past 15 years and players have won medals at national school basketball championships.
Dr. Yadav stressed that school sports competitions play a crucial role in fostering healthy competition, discipline, and team spirit among students from an early age. He also highlighted the importance of sports in developing children's personality, confidence, and decision-making skills.
He further stated that following Shahdol's outstanding performance in 2023-24, the district was given the opportunity to host a national-level basketball competition in 2024-25. He described this as a matter of great pride for the entire district.
