The Delhi CEO has resolved approximately 26 lakh out of 33.1 lakh voter discrepancy cases, with the final electoral rolls to be published on November 4.
As reported by The Hindu, around 26 lakh out of the total 33.1 lakh voter discrepancy cases have been resolved by the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). This constitutes approximately 78.5% of the cases flagged for discrepancies or not being linked to the electoral roll. The remaining verification process is scheduled to be completed by October 29.
The CEO's statement comes following concerns raised regarding insufficient reasons or details provided in the notices issued to voters with discrepancies, as reported by The Hindu on September 22. The Supreme Court observed that clarity was necessary for voters served with such notices and stated that the notices appeared to have been issued 'almost mechanically'.
Delhi had approximately 1.4 crore electors before the voter roll revision exercise, of whom 47.7 lakh voters were removed from the draft electoral roll published on August 31. Voters removed from the list were marked as permanently shifted, deceased, absent, duplicate entries or placed under the ‘other’ category, but the exact nature of this 'other' category remains unclear.
To ensure all eligible voters are enrolled, booth-level officers have been visiting homes across constituencies to collect documents from the 33 lakh persons who received notices. Additionally, a special re-verification drive has been ordered to reinstate eligible voters who were left out of the draft electoral roll, as reported by The Indian Express.
