The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has announced the completion of creating 11 crore farmer IDs, five months ahead of schedule under the Digital Agriculture Mission.
The Centre has successfully created 11 crore farmer IDs across the country, achieving a significant milestone under the Digital Agriculture Mission launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. This initiative was set to be completed by March 2027, but was accomplished five months ahead of schedule.
The Farmer ID initiative aims to provide farmers with a unique digital identity, enabling them to access government schemes, bank credit, crop insurance, disaster relief, and other agricultural services in a transparent, efficient, and timely manner. This move is expected to reduce paperwork and repeated verification.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan shared a video message announcing the achievement, stating that the target of creating 11 crore Farmer IDs by March 2027 was met yesterday, five months ahead of schedule.
Minister Chouhan added that the Farmer IDs would ensure transparent delivery of benefits under various government schemes and facilitate farmers in accessing bank loans, crop insurance, disaster relief assistance, and selling their produce. He further stated that the initiative would help eliminate fraud and make farming easier and more efficient.
The Ministry also highlighted that the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) being developed under the mission is already showing results on the ground. Through the Farmer ID-based service delivery system, more than 6 crore farmers across the country have so far received direct benefits under various schemes.
Linking a verified farmer database with agricultural services is helping eliminate fraud and the need for duplicate verification. The Ministry further stated that it has also improved coordination among government departments and strengthened policy formulation and the monitoring of schemes, making it easier to track their implementation and delivery of benefits.
