The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden flight test of Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile Kusha. The missile system, capable of neutralizing various aerial threats, will reduce India's dependence on imports and strengthen the nation's air defence capability.
The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully conducted the maiden flight test of Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile Kusha from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The Ministry of Defence stated that the test was against an electronic target simulating high-speed, high-altitude aerial threats, including fighter jets, missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and large enemy aircraft.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and other stakeholders for this achievement. He highlighted that the capability to develop a long-range surface-to-air missile system is possessed by only a handful of nations. The successful test marks an important milestone in India’s Defence Research and Development.
The Minister added that this missile system will significantly reduce India's dependence on imports, thereby strengthening the nation's air defence capability.
