US President Donald Trump has announced an extensive economic warfare against Iran, targeting key economic lifelines and threatening penalties for supporting countries. The measures aim to weaken Iran's ability to finance activities abroad.

In a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump declared an unprecedented campaign of economic warfare against Iran. According to the announcement, Iran was given several opportunities to reach a deal with the United States but failed to do so. In response, Washington will now focus on isolating Tehran and targeting its key economic lifelines, including oil-smuggling networks, financial transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies. Trump also threatened economic punishment for any country that provides support to Iran, with potential consequences affecting financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government agencies. The President urged US allies to join in isolating Iran, referring to the measures as an economic D-Day. Trump's aim is to weaken Iran’s ability to finance and support activities abroad, repeating his longstanding warning against Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon.

This announcement comes amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global oil shipments. Trump stated that the waterway remains open and claimed the US naval blockade has been highly effective. It is worth noting that negotiations with Iran have reportedly been paused, although Trump suggested they could resume in the future, contingent upon Tehran being ready to make a deal.

In response to the US announcement, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Iran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the United States fulfills its commitments under a 14-point memorandum. These conditions include lifting the blockade, releasing frozen Iranian assets, and easing sanctions on Iranian oil.
