Meenakshidevi Hi-Tech Agro Industry Pvt. Ltd. establishes a modern cold storage facility with financial assistance from Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes (VCF-SC). The project enhances post-harvest storage capacity, improves agricultural produce quality, and generates rural employment.
Agriculture forms the backbone of India's rural economy, but inadequate post-harvest infrastructure can result in significant losses for farmers, limiting their income. Modern cold storage facilities are essential for preserving agricultural produce, improving its quality, and extending its shelf life, ensuring better market value for farmers.
Meenakshidevi Hi-Tech Agro Industry Pvt. Ltd., located in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, has taken significant strides towards improving agricultural infrastructure through the establishment of a modern cold storage facility. Recognizing the project's potential to strengthen the agricultural value chain and generate rural employment, the Venture Capital Fund for Scheduled Castes (VCF-SC) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment provided financial assistance in the form of Venture Capital, comprising Equity and Optionally Convertible Debentures.
The 5,000 MTPA cold storage unit consists of five chambers, each with a capacity of 1,000 MT. This development significantly enhances post-harvest storage capacity in the region, enabling optimum utilization of resources while ensuring better quality and longer shelf life of agricultural produce.
By providing reliable storage infrastructure, the enterprise empowers farmers to secure remunerative prices for their produce instead of resorting to distress sales. The initiative also generates employment opportunities in rural areas, particularly for people belonging to weaker sections, thereby contributing to inclusive rural development.
