The Government of India has announced plans to strengthen various healthcare sectors including emergency care, allied health workforce, drug regulatory capacity, clinical research, mental health services, medical education, and specialized infrastructure.

The Union Government has outlined several initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare in India. These proposals seek to bolster emergency and trauma care facilities, expand the allied healthcare workforce, improve drug regulatory capacity, advance clinical research and biopharmaceutical capabilities, enhance mental health services, upgrade medical education, and establish specialized healthcare infrastructure.

The first phase of strengthening 160 District Hospitals by March 2027 reflects the Government's emphasis on improving healthcare delivery and workforce capacity. Furthermore, there are plans to train and skill 5 lakh caregivers to address the growing demand for quality healthcare services.

In terms of mental health services, the Government has proposed the establishment and upgradation of Regional Apex Institutions such as the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP), Ranchi, and Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Tezpur. These institutions will offer advanced psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery facilities, and enhanced research, training, and academic capacities.

The Government has also proposed strengthening the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to meet global standards and approval timeframes through a dedicated scientific review cadre and specialist workforce. This move is intended to support an efficient, robust, and globally benchmarked drug regulatory system.
