India is aiding flood-stricken Nepal by sending rescue teams, medical aid, and humanitarian supplies. Over 320 Indian nationals are unaccounted for after the disaster, with efforts underway to locate them.

In response to the flash flood tragedy that struck Nepal on Wednesday, the Ministry of External Affairs has reported that 320 Indian nationals remain uncontactable or are missing. This alarming figure includes around 100 people of Indian origin who hold other nationalities. However, a glimmer of hope emerged as it was announced that 63 Indian nationals working at the Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project have been successfully rescued from the affected area.

Furthermore, efforts are being made to evacuate another 96 Indians who were stranded on the Chinese side. According to External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, these individuals have safely crossed into Nepal by land and the process of their evacuation is ongoing.

To further aid Nepal in its relief efforts, India has proposed sending a Tunnel rescue team. A reconnaissance team will first be flown in to assess the necessary equipment for the operation. In addition, a medical team is being dispatched, and India has offered Bailey bridges along with technical teams to expedite the restoration of connectivity in the affected areas.

To support the ongoing rescue operations, an 11-member team of doctors, paramedics, and Recce team for Tunnel rescue operations is on its way. This team is being sent along with ten tonnes of humanitarian assistance that includes portable generator sets, dignity kits, food packets, and water purification tablets.

The Indian government has set up a control room in the Ministry of External Affairs, which is working tirelessly around the clock. The Indian embassies, both in Kathmandu and Beijing, have also established 24-hour helplines to facilitate communication during this critical time.
