Defence Minister Rajnath Singh discusses India's plans for a technology-driven defence strategy over the next decade, focusing on self-reliance and indigenously developed equipment.
In an address at an event in New Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the importance of a future-oriented defence strategy for India. He underscored the need to focus not only on current weapons but also prepare for future challenges. According to Mr Singh, modern warfare has expanded beyond armed forces and weapons, making it multi-sectoral.
Over the past 12 years, the country's defence capabilities have significantly improved, with a marked shift in approach towards national security. The government has substantially increased capital allocation in the defence budget, allocating nearly 75% of the 1,390,000 crore rupees budget for procurement from the domestic defence industry.
To promote self-reliance in defence, the armed forces have issued five Positive Indigenisation Lists, which cover a total of 509 defence equipment, weapon systems, and platforms.
