Security agencies coordinated a multi-state operation to detain over 250 individuals linked to an ISI-backed terror syndicate involved in grenade, IED, and petrol bomb attacks across India.
In a significant development, security agencies have busted a Pakistan-based terror syndicate, known as the Shahzad Bhatti Network (SBN), that was linked to numerous attacks across India. The SBN had been involved in grenade, IED, and petrol bomb attacks, as well as targeted killings, making it a significant threat to national security.
The multi-state operation, coordinated on August 12, used a real-time intelligence-sharing system with state police forces to thwart the syndicate's plans for potential subversive attacks within the country. This operation was part of the 'zero tolerance' policy of the Centre towards cross-border terrorism.
Besides other states, the SBN had been paying local conduits in Punjab to recce police, defence, and religious sites, as well as installing CCTV cameras for espionage. The security agencies have detained 44 persons in Punjab, followed by 52 in Haryana, and two each in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. A total of 51 individuals were detained in Delhi, with the largest number, 62, arrested in Uttar Pradesh.
The security agencies remain vigilant against cross-border terrorism as Independence Day approaches, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining national security.
