
A parliamentary committee has presented its report detailing recommendations for the preservation, mapping, and sustainment of India's cultural heritage in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
On August 12, 2026, the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, chaired by Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha, M.P., Rajya Sabha, presented its 393 Report titled 'From Manuscript to Mission: Preserving, Mapping and Sustaining India’s Cultural Heritage in the Age of Artificial Intelligence'. The report was adopted on August 11. The key recommendations made by the committee include enlarging the digitisation standard into a complete capture standard, instituting a research and challenge programme to read manuscripts that cannot be opened, building the national reading workforce, releasing every publicly funded page and verified transcription as an open national library of training pages, publishing the open index of persons, places and works of the corpus, among others.
