The Indian government has approved the construction of a rail line expansion project between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, with an aim to enhance multi-modal connectivity.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval to construct the 3rd and 4th Rail Line of Ballari – Guntakal section in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh at a cost of 1,264 crore rupees. This expansion will increase the existing Indian Railway network by approximately 46 kilometres. The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced this development in New Delhi. He stated that the project is planned under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on improving multi-modal connectivity and logistic efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder consultations. The proposed multi-tracking project will provide seamless connectivity for the movement of people, goods, and services across three districts in both states. According to the minister, the project will cover approximately 99 villages with a combined population of around seven lakhs. By enhancing the railway connection between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, this expansion aims to improve connectivity, mobility, and logistics within the region.
