President Smt Droupadi Murmu delivers a speech emphasizing the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's message, and visits Mother Teresa's Memorial in Skopje before departing for Romania.

On July 22, 2026, during the unveiling of a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Museum of the City of Skopje, President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu delivered a speech addressing the gathering. She highlighted that while Gandhiji belonged to India, his message was universal, representing truth and non-violence as powerful instruments for achieving justice, dignity, and freedom. In light of current global conflicts, intolerance, and division, she emphasized Gandhiji’s faith in dialogue, compassion, and peaceful coexistence as particularly relevant. The President further stated that the bust would serve as a lasting symbol of the friendship between India and North Macedonia and their shared commitment to peace, tolerance, and humanity.

Prior to this event, President Murmu, along with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova of North Macedonia, visited the Memorial of Mother Teresa in Skopje. Born in Skopje, Mother Teresa lived there until 1928 before moving to Ireland and later India. For her exceptional humanitarian work and selfless service, she was posthumously awarded India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 1980.

Later that day, President Murmu concluded her visit to North Macedonia as she prepared to depart for Bucharest, Romania – the final leg of her three-nation tour.
