Indian Railways Strengthens Security with CCTV Surveillance Systems Across Network

CCTV cameras at a railway station

The Indian Railways has been installing CCTV surveillance systems in a phased manner, aiming to enhance security and passenger safety. As of June 2026, the system has been provided at 3,215 stations and 13,409 coaches across various zones.

The Indian Railways is reinforcing its security measures by installing CCTV surveillance systems across its network. According to the Press Information Bureau, this initiative aims to strengthen passenger safety and enhance security surveillance.

The installation of these systems is being carried out in a phased manner, with all operational Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat train rakes already equipped with CCTV cameras. As of now, CCTV surveillance systems have been installed at 3,215 railway stations and 13,409 passenger coaches across the following zones:

– East Central Railway

– North Central Railway

– North Eastern Railway

– Northeast Frontier Railway

– North Western Railway

– South Central Railway

– South Eastern Railway

– South East Central Railway

– South Western Railway

– West Central Railway

– Metro Railway, Kolkata

– Konkan Railway Corporation Limited

Installation of CCTV surveillance systems is a continuous and ongoing process.

The installed CCTV cameras at stations are equipped with AI-based video analytics features such as intrusion detection, loitering detection, and fallen person detection. During the last three years i.e. 2023 to 2025 and up to June, 2026, 9840 security-related incidents have been detected.
