Iran's National Security Commission has announced that vessels from authorized countries transiting the Strait of Hormuz will now be required to pay service fees to Tehran. The fees cover a wide range of maritime, environmental, and logistical provisions, as outlined by the state broadcaster.

In a press statement, Iran's National Security Commission spokesperson, Ebrahim Rezaei, revealed that vessels from authorized countries transiting the strategically important waterway will now be subject to service fees. This decision comes following the approval of Article 3 Strategic Action to Ensure the Security and Progress of the Strait of Hormuz plan.

According to the state broadcaster, the service fees are designed with flexible financial terms. The fees cover a wide range of maritime, environmental, and logistical provisions, including navigation assistance, security services, and environmental protection measures.

Previously, Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Mohsen Rezaei, declared that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and will not reopen until the United States fulfills its commitments and alters its behavior amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.

In a contrasting move, US President Donald Trump asserted his claim over the critical waterway by sharing an image suggesting the Strait of Hormuz as new US territory. The ongoing confrontation between Iran and the United States revolves around this strategic passage, with Iran warning of countermeasures against unapproved tanker traffic.
