Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasizes Madhya Pradesh's dedication to wildlife conservation, highlighting significant initiatives for tiger conservation and other species at the state-level International Tiger Day programme.

In a recent address at the state-level International Tiger Day programme held at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reiterated Madhya Pradesh's commitment to wildlife conservation. He emphasized that Indian culture values nature and wildlife deeply, with various animals associated with the vehicles of Hindu deities, such as the tiger being the vehicle of Goddess Durga, symbolizing strength.

Over the years, Madhya Pradesh has made substantial progress in tiger conservation. In 1974, the tiger population had fallen to double digits; however, by 2016, the number had risen to around 250, and the 2022 census recorded 785 tigers. Dr. Yadav expressed confidence that the next census would record more than 1,000 tigers, attributing this success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance.

The Chief Minister also highlighted various initiatives taken by the state government for the conservation of other wildlife species like cheetahs, gharials, elephants, wild buffaloes, and others. These efforts have helped Madhya Pradesh retain its status as the Tiger State and gain recognition as the Cheetah State and Leopard State.

In addition to addressing tiger conservation, Dr. Yadav inaugurated an exhibition showcasing wildlife conservation activities and dedicated newly acquired vehicles for wildlife protection. He also released several departmental publications focusing on butterflies of Satpura, grass species of the Kanha region, wildlife rescue practices, biodiversity of wild mushrooms in Pench Tiger Reserve, and logos of Ratapani Tiger Reserve and Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve.

The Chief Minister also participated in the 'One Person, One Leaf' campaign launched by Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve to promote community participation in conservation. He painted a tiger's face on a leaf-shaped clay ceramic tile, which will be used to decorate the Hinoti Tourism Gate of the reserve.

Furthermore, Dr. Yadav acknowledged the state's efforts towards gharial conservation and the reintroduction of wild buffaloes, which had disappeared from the state nearly 100 years ago.
