Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav discusses the growth of religious tourism in Madhya Pradesh, historical connections to Bihar, and plans for infrastructure development at important sites.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced that Madhya Pradesh is taking steps to boost religious and spiritual tourism. The development of Shri Mahakal Lok at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple has led to a significant increase in devotees and tourists.
In his visit to Bodh Gaya, Bihar, Dr. Yadav discussed the importance of Sanatan Dharma in honouring ancestors. He noted that many devotees visiting Gaya also make it a point to visit Bodh Gaya for darshan and sightseeing.
The Madhya Pradesh government is working on developing important sites associated with Buddhism, including Ujjain. Dr. Yadav stated that religious tourism in Madhya Pradesh has witnessed significant growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who has fostered stronger goodwill and cooperation among states.
Dr. Yadav also highlighted historical connections between Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Around 2,200 years ago, Samrat Ashoka ruled from Pataliputra and had earlier served as the administrative head of the Avanti Mahajanapada, whose capital was Ujjain. His son Mahendra and daughter Sanghamitra spent their childhood in Ujjain.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also mentioned that Sambha, the son of Lord Shri Krishna, is associated with the construction of Sun temples at several places in Bihar, reflecting ancient ties between Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
In addition to Ujjain, facilities are being developed at religious destinations across the country, including Varanasi and Somnath. The Madhya Pradesh government aims to set new benchmarks in the management of religious tourism.
