The closing of schools due to traffic disruptions from the BJP rally raises questions about access to markets and public amenities during political events.
At least six schools in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, were closed on Wednesday due to anticipated traffic disruptions caused by a 'save democracy, remove anarchy' march organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as reported by Dainik Bhaskar. The district education officer issued an order on Tuesday for schools to assess potential traffic congestion and diversions affecting student commute and make necessary adjustments to school timings, including declaring a holiday if needed.
The rally passed through New Market, one of Bhopal’s busy commercial areas. This move raises questions about the impact on access to markets and public amenities during political events.
Congress state president Jitu Patwari expressed concern over the disruptions caused by the BJP's rally, stating: 'Has education for kids in Madhya Pradesh now become hostage to the BJP’s so-called programs?'
In a separate development, Congress leader Abhinav Baroliya highlighted that the Hindu festival of Dhanteras, which falls on Friday, is an important occasion for traders and business owners. The celebration precedes Diwali and is considered an auspicious day for shopping.
Baroliya argued that disrupting access to markets and public amenities to hold a political event was inappropriate at this time, PTI reported.
