On August 27, 2026, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took cognizance of a media report detailing an incident in Bhojpur village, Garhwa district, Jharkhand. According to the report, carried on August 24, a woman was admitted to a hospital for medical treatment due to 40% burn injuries sustained after being attacked by a group of people who poured boiling water on her. The perpetrators are reportedly residents of the same village. The NHRC has deemed the contents of the news as serious issues of human rights violation if true. Consequently, notices have been issued to the Garhwa District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, requesting a detailed report on the matter within two weeks. This report should include the victim’s current health status and any compensation that may have been paid to her.
