The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has ordered an inquiry into the death of Gulzar Singh, a resident of Punjab who accused the Finance Minister and certain members of the village panchayat of threats.
On September 8, 2026, the NCSC issued a notice to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the Punjab Government, directing them to submit facts and a report on allegations made by Gulzar Singh within five days. The inquiry is being conducted under Article 338 of the Indian Constitution following a complaint filed by Shri Sheetal Angural, former MLA and State President, BJP SC Morcha, Punjab.
According to the complaint, Gulzar Singh had raised questions before the Finance Minister regarding the problem of narcotic substances in Punjab. In a video circulated on social media prior to his death, he reportedly claimed that he had consumed poison due to fear of the Minister and levelled serious allegations against certain members of the village panchayat.
NCSC Chairman Shri Kishor Makwana described the matter as an extremely serious and sensitive incident. He emphasized the need for an impartial, independent and high-level inquiry due to the allegations made against a Minister and certain members of the village panchayat by name in the video.
Shri Makwana also announced his visit to Sangrur on September 10, 2026, to examine the matter and ascertain the veracity of the allegations. He reiterated the Commission's commitment to ensuring justice for the family of the deceased and safeguarding the constitutional rights of members of the Scheduled Castes.
