Six workers were killed and sixteen rescued following a collapse at a hydroelectric project tunnel in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The incident involved the Hindustan Construction Company's work on the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation-owned Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project.
On Thursday, a tragic incident occurred at a hydroelectric project site in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. According to PTI, six workers lost their lives when water and debris entered a tunnel under construction by the Hindustan Construction Company for the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation's Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project. The incident was reported around 7.05 pm, as stated by the State Disaster Response Force.
Soon after the mishap, rescue operations were initiated by teams from the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, National Disaster Response Force, and SDRF, with the police and Central Industrial Security Force also participating. As per PTI, additional teams may be deployed if necessary.
It is important to note that Chamoli has experienced heavy rainfall over the past several days.
