The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants ended their protest following the formation of a committee to investigate alleged question paper leak and irregularities. The panel will examine MPSC's functioning, investigate allegations, and recommend reforms.
Thousands of state civil service aspirants had been protesting at Pune’s SM Joshi Bridge since October 2, demanding the resignation of Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) chairman Vivek Bhimanwar following alleged question paper leak and irregularities in the drug inspector recruitment examination held in March. The aspirants ended their 10-day protest on Sunday after Bhimanwar went on leave pending an inquiry into the alleged question paper leak. According to PTI, the state government formed a probe committee to investigate the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the examination. The panel will be chaired by former Bombay High Court Chief judge Dilip Bhosale, with Indian Administrative Service officer Tukaram Mundhe serving as the secretary. Other members include serving and retired bureaucrats, and another former High Court judge. The panel will examine the commission’s functioning, investigate allegations of paper leaks, and recommend reforms. It is expected to submit its report within two months, as reported by The Indian Express. The government also assured the protesters that other demands would be considered, including the recruitment to 70,000 posts over three years, an increase in vacancies for the Group C examination scheduled for January and the withdrawal of cases against the representatives of the demonstrators, as reported by PTI.
