Jet fuel prices have increased for the fourth consecutive month, raising aviation turbine fuel costs to Rs 138.5 per litre. This follows a hike of Rs 6.2 per litre in September and Rs 5 per litre in August. Meanwhile, commercial LPG prices have risen by an average of Rs 10 per 19-kg cylinder, with the steepest increase observed in Kolkata.

On Sunday, jet fuel prices for domestic airlines rose by Rs 1.3 per litre, marking the fourth consecutive monthly increase. This has led to an increased cost of aviation turbine fuel, which now stands at Rs 138.5 per litre, as reported by PTI. The price hike on October 1 had already increased jet fuel prices by Rs 16 per litre.

In addition to this, the prices of commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have also risen by an approximate Rs 10 per 19-kg cylinder across the country. This increase affects businesses and industrial consumers who use commercial LPG cylinders. The hike was steepest in Kolkata, where prices increased by Rs 17 per cylinder.

The latest increases will add to the financial burden on airlines, as aviation turbine fuel accounts for about 40% of their operating expenses. The conflict in West Asia has contributed to increased global oil prices and airspace restrictions that have elevated operating costs. On April 26, Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet expressed concerns about the financial stability of the country’s aviation sector, seeking immediate government support.

On May 13, Air India announced its intention to temporarily suspend services on certain international routes from June to August due to airspace restrictions over some regions and high jet fuel prices. The prices of domestic cooking gas cylinders remain unchanged.
