Ganesh Chaturthi commences nationwide; ten-day-long rituals include idol installation and immersion in water bodies, particularly significant in Maharashtra.
The country-wide celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, observed as the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, symbolizing wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune, has commenced today. Known alternatively as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav, this ten-day festival signifies the beginning of ceremonial activities at homes involving installation of clay idols of Lord Ganesha for worship. The culmination of these rituals is marked by Ganesh Visarjan, a grand event in which the idols are immersed in water bodies, signifying the cycle of creation and dissolution.
The procession of idols from homes and pandals to rivers, lakes, or seas is accompanied by chants of ‘Ganapati Bappa Morya’, bhajans, and dances. The festivities receive considerable attention in Maharashtra, where the enthusiasm for celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi is particularly evident.
