External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar underscores India's strong diplomatic influence, as most heads of state attend BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi. A consensus was achieved on the West Asia conflict.
In a significant display of diplomatic prowess, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar today commended the successful conclusion of the BRICS Summit 2026 held in New Delhi. During his media interaction, he acknowledged that India's ability to facilitate dialogue among nations was evident as most heads of state attended from member countries.
Dr Jaishankar emphasised that this summit took place amidst a world rife with two major conflicts and intense opinions and interests. Despite the polarised global environment, all participating countries were able to issue a joint statement advocating for peace, security, stability, long-term understanding, smooth global trade, supply chains, energy flow, and the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The Minister revealed that 32 delegations represented 11 member states, 10 partner states, four regional organisations, and seven international organisations during the summit. He further disclosed that a consensus was forged on the thorniest issue, which was the West Asia conflict.
In addition, Dr Jaishankar highlighted that BRICS countries were united in their stance against terrorism, with any act of terrorism being deemed a criminal act. The group explicitly recognised the unacceptability of the Pahalgam attack and emphasised zero tolerance for terrorism, rejecting double standards in countering it.
